It is impossible to run Alpha without people who will volunteer to be a Session Leader, Table Host or Table Helper. If you have previously participated in Alpha as a guest, you are qualified to serve in one of these roles.

Session Leader
The Session Leader is the "emcee" for the Alpha session. This should be a person who feels comfortable speaking in front on groups and can make people feel at ease, especially if they don't typically go to church. The Session Leader also leads a 30 minute pre-meeting prior to each Alpha session.

Small Group Hosts
Small Group Hosts should be warm and caring individuals who are friendly and good listeners. They should be able to facilitate conversation in their small groups, but not dominate the conversation. They should also feel comfortable with contemplative silences during small group discussion at their table. Small Group Hosts should pray daily for their guests.

Small Group Helpers
Small Group Helpers should also be friendly, warm and caring individuals. They should be good listeners and should be proactive in trying to draw out quieter guests in the small group. Small Group Helpers should be happy to let others speak first in the small group. Praying quietly during small group discussion and praying on a daily basis for their guests is also a responsibility of the Small Group Helper.
